Overview: Migrate to the Access API

The following guide will outline some of the underlying principles of our Access API and provide guidance on upgrading your application from Dwolla’s legacy v1 API. Reference our API docs for more information on the functionality currently available.

The Access API supports most of the same features and functionality as API v1; methods that are not currently supported in the Access API are under Product consideration. Any new functionality added to the Dwolla platform will only be added to the Access API.

Dwolla’s Access API is a RESTful API. It follows best practices in its design and improves on the developer experience from the now legacy v1 API.

Financial institutions play an important role in the Dwolla network.

Dwolla, Inc. is an agent of Veridian Credit Union and Compass Bank and all funds associated with your account in the Dwolla network are held in pooled accounts at Veridian Credit Union and Compass Bank. These funds are not eligible for individual insurance, including FDIC insurance and may not be eligible for share insurance by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. Dwolla, Inc. is the operator of a software platform that communicates user instructions for funds transfers to Veridian Credit Union and Compass Bank.
